home

Date of Investigation: November 14, 2003

Time of Investigation: The investigation began at approximately 7:15 P.M. and ended at approximately 8:45 P.M.

Description of Location: A private home that is currently occupied by two adults, a young boy, an infant and two cats. The house appears to be about 100 years old. Four rooms were investigated on the first floor - a kitchen and a family area occupied the back half of the house and a living room and dining room occupied the front half of the house. A utility room and basement were not investigated. Four rooms were investigated on the second floor - a nursery and bathroom sat off a central hallway at the back of the house and the master bedroom and a child's bedroom occupied the front of the house.

Investigators Present: Andy K., Tonya K.

Equipment Utilized: Sony M-527V Microcassette Analog Recorder, 2 Panasonic IR Digital Recorders, Sony Video 8XR Handicam with Nightvision, 2 EPD Raynger ST4L Thermal Scanners, NightOwl Nightvision scope, Sony Mavica FD7 Digital Camera, Canon Elph APS camera

Investigation Conditions: Only the adults were present during the time of the investigation and they remained perfectly quiet in the family area during the entire investigation. As requested, they provided us with no history of the house or paranormal events that may have occurred there before the investigation or before this report was written. One cat had been secured in a closed room, but the other roamed free. Windy conditions outside created occasional noises. Traffic on the road just in front of the house created frequent noise which we carefully noted while doing recordings in the home, ignoring any sounds that appeared on the tapes as a car approached or passed by. Candles had been lit in several places in the house which could have affected any photographs that were taken and might have covered any possible unexplained scents.

Investigation Report and Data

The investigation began with both investigators on the first floor while the video camera recorded from the master bedroom looking out the door into the nursery. Average temperature readings that were recorded on the first floor were as follows (taking into consideration all surfaces);

Kitchen: 65-84 degrees F (the average temperature here was 65-69, but the oven, which
had been used that evening, accounted for the high reading)
Dining Area: 62-71 degrees F (windows accounted for low readings)
Living Room: 58-67 degrees F
Family Area: 70-72 degrees F

Only one unusual temperature change was recorded. In the Living Room Tonya recorded a temperature of 82.7 which quickly dropped to normal range. Although no immediate source for this anomaly was determined, it is possible that one of the candles may have accounted for it.
Both investigators noticed an unusual noise in the dining room that, at first, sounded like footsteps upon the floorboards of the second floor. It was quickly determined, however, that the noise could be attributed to the wind moving the windows. Recordings were done in both the kitchen and the living room. Nothing unusual was noticed at any point with the night vision scope.
After spending forty-five minutes on the first floor, the camera was moved to the first floor where it was placed in the living room so as to look into the dining room. The investigators moved to the second floor. Average temperature readings on the second floor were as follows:

Bathroom: 59-64 degrees F
Child's Room: 57-62 degrees F
Master Bedroom: 58-62 degrees F
Nursery: 61-67 degrees F

No unusual temperature readings were recorded, but the investigators did notice that the child's bedroom was drafty.
Recordings were done in the bathroom, nursery and the child's bedroom. Nothing unusual was noticed at any point with the night vision scope. The investigators spent 40 minutes on the second floor before ending the investigation.

Video: The videotape recorded at the house was carefully scrutinized. Although the recording made on the second floor appeared unusual at several points, it appears that what was initially believed to be orb activity taking place near the closet door in the master bedroom was, in fact, dust that may have been stirred by some type of vent. No other unusual activity was noted in the video on either floor.

Recordings: Five recording sessions were done during the investigation using three different recorders. Several possible EVP were obtained during these sessions. All of the EVP were recorded on the second floor. (To listen to some of these recordings, go to our Evidence page. )

The following are believed to be EVP responses obtained during the investigation. Each investigator listened to the recordings separately, without hearing the question that was asked, before making a conclusion about the response:

Nursery:
1) In response to Tonya's question "What is your occupation?" - "We are dead"

2) In response to Tonya's question "Do you live in this house?" - "It's too hot" or "It's Linda"

Bathroom:
1) In response to Andy's question "Where are you right now?" - "(unknown noise) It was Dina"

2) In response to Andy's question "What is your spouse's name?" -- "He was dead first…No (different voice)" or "He went into the room"

3) In response to Andy's question "Have you been in love before?" - "Get hurt" or "No parents"

Although other potential EVP were discovered, they were not as easily interpreted as the ones listed above. Further study of these in the future as software and technology improve is warranted.

Impressions

Impressions can be defined as experiences or feelings we might have during an investigation that cannot be quantified or reproduced for others to see or hear, or cannot be proven scientifically. While they are not viewed by us as "hard" evidence, we also feel that we should not ignore this information or discard it from our reports.

Tonya: Although no evidence was obtained in the nursery, I felt drawn to that location and spent much of my time on the second floor investigating in that room. I was not drawn to any other location within the home and did not have any experiences that cannot be backed up by data.

Andy: I had no strong impressions or experiences during the investigation. Although I felt that the bathroom on the second floor deserved closer scrutiny than the other rooms in the house, there was really no specific incident or impression that made me feel this way.

Conclusion

The only data that could not be explained by natural causes were the EVP evidence that was collected on the second floor. While we are not currently able to explain this phenomena, there is no proof in the scientific community that it is evidence of paranormal activity. We believe that it may indicate that paranormal activity is occurring within the home, particularly on the second floor.
Stories from the Homeowner
Please note that these stories were obtained as part of our interview process following our analysis of data obtained during the investigation and following the completion of our report. We follow this procedure to avoid bias during the investigation itself.
When one of the homeowners first began to sleep at the house, she experienced intense shaking of the bed when no one else was present in the house. The shaking was so vivid that she thought her husband was trying to play a joke on her!

One night, a female visitor stayed in the home in the family room. Just as she settled in for the night on the couch, she saw a woman with long hair walk quickly from the front living room through the room where she was to sleep. The woman then walked over to the back door and vanished. She thought it was another guest staying in the home, but when she called her name, she was already settled in on the couch in the living room.

In the same family area, the child who lives in the home witnessed a woman in white floating above him while he was on the couch. He had not been told of the experience that the female guest had prior to this.

More recently, the homeowner was alone in the home with her son one evening. As they ate dinner in the family room, they heard a loud pounding on the front door. The woman was shocked, as nobody ever uses that door. The cat, in the front window, was going crazy. She went to the front door, but nobody was there. She and her son returned to the family room and witnessed an old man entering the back door. The homeowner insists that she had locked the door, as she reports being compulsive about ensuring the doors in the house are locked. The old man was described as having gloves on and wearing a gray sweatshirt with the hood up. He had many wrinkles and she reports that his eyes were very dark. She confronted the visitor by saying, "What are you doing? You can't come in here!" She quickly picked up the phone to call for help. The visitor responded by remaining in the doorway and stating, "I'm the butcher from across the street and I'm supposed to pick up my tool." He finally went out the door to the porch after being told that the homeowner was calling the police. When the homeowner shut the door, she looked out the side window and saw no one leaving. The cat continued to act strangely.

The homeowner also reports that recent photos taken from the outside of the home show the house looking as if it is on fire. The photos also appear to show someone on a ladder leading up to the nursery.
